Scottsdale
Scottsdale was first incorporated in 1951, but thats not when it was first settled. The Hohokam lived and farmed the area over a thousand years earlier. Army Chaplain Winfield Scott bought land in 1888 to set up a farm for a pricey $3.50 an acre. In 1937 Frank Lloyd Wright set up Taliesin West as a location for an apprenticeship program for young architects. Since then Scottsdale has been a center for arts and culture in the Valley.
Today Scottsdale is known also known for its luxury homes and spectacular mountain and city views. Old town Scottsdale is a center for shopping, restaurants and taverns of all sorts.
